My group started looking at ideas of what our project could be. We came up with ideas like popcorn , something with legos, perfume, but in the end we landed with JBL.

After decided we wanted to go with a piece of technology, we started putting together a story.

As we were creating the story, we realized we didn't really have any work for our comp artiest Qinye. This led to us deciding we wanted to the end the mock ad with a CG interation shot. This last shot will be lots of fun working with Qinye to create. The idea is for the JBL speaker to drop on a table. The table will be a part of the live action plate and the speaker being CG.
Above is photo from the scouting we did Saturday. The first photo is our biggest contender right now, but that is assuming we have building permission. Qinye has camera and film major friends, who we hope to have help us. I personally have a 360 camera which will be used for a HDRI. I also have a lighting kit and a JBL speaker which should help us match the lighting for the shot.
Later that day I started working with a model we found from sketchfab.

The model had a few problems with it out the gate. Number one, was that the model was all one job. Second, if we wanted to achieve the FX we are going for, the actual speaker parts on the sides needed some work.

I did two things to fix it. I separated the model so i could detach object 1 from the model, allowing for that part of the speaker to move and then I created object 2, which is an inner cap that allows for object 1 to move without showing the inside of the JBL speaker. After I created those, I UV unwraped the model so it could be passed along to Cailin, who is in charge of the texturing.
After the model was all good, I started placing Redshift materials onto the model so I could start playing with the redshift shader option and begin lighting test while Qinye finished up pre-vis.
The test I did here helped me get used to working with Redshift in Maya and how to get everything to render on the SCAD Render Farm.
On Sunday Qinye finished the pre-vis.
I took her pre-via file and started changing out her mock JBL Speaker model for the final one. This will allow me next week to setup the texture and focus on finalizing camera movements and lighting on the first 2 shots.
